Supplies needed:
6" squares of Top & Bottom Fabric (I used blue
felt)
Two 6" squares of medium to heavy weight cutaway stabilizer (I used
medium weight)
Water Soluble Stabilizer doubled and hooped (I used H2Gone)
Royal or Midnight Blue Thread
Matching Bobbin Thread for Edge Satin Stitches
White Thread for snowflakes
Hoop the WSS (two sheets) Pin your top fabric and
one sheet of cutaway stabilizer to the WSS making sure the pins are
outside the embroidery area. (Top fabric on top)
Stitch the design to the first stop.
Remove the hoop from the machine.
Do NOT unhoop the stabilizer.
Carefully cut the top fabric and cutaway stabilizer from the
outside of the frame and the inside of the frame. Do NOT cut the
WSS. |
Return the hoop to the machine and stitch the outline
and satin stich for the inside "window" of the frame.
Stop before doing the outside edge
Float the cutaway and the bottom fabric (right side down) under the
hoop. If you aren't comfortable with floating them, you can pin them
all together in a sandwich. Return the hoop to the machine. Refer
to photo for correct order of layers.
Stitch the first outline border around the outside edge. |
Remove hoop from machine. Do NOT unhoop the WSS
Trim the bottom fabric and the bottom cutaway stabilizer close to
the outline stitches. |
Cut away all the materials except the WSS from the
outside of the outline stitch. |
Return the hoop to the machine and stitch the second outline and
the satin stitches. |
Remove the hoop from the machine. Your frame should
look like this. |
Tear WSS away from satin stitch outline around the
outside and inside the "window".
Turn the frame over and cut a slit through the backing
material and the cutaway stabilizer about 1/4" to 1/2" from the top.
Be careful not to cut into the front of the frame.
Only cut it as wide as the photo you plan to slip in it. |
To remove the excess WSS, I just patted around the edges with a wet
sponge and/or dipped my fingers in a cup of water and patted the edges.
You can rinse it, but I was too impatient to wait for it to dry. Slip
your photo in the slit you made. I did trim about 1/2" inch off
the bottom of the photo to make it center the way I wanted it. |
