Supplies needed:
Fat quarter of Top Fabric (I used heart & stripes, red & white
cotton)
Fat quarter of Bottom Fabric (I used medium weight denim)
Water Soluble Stabilizer (I used H2Gone)
Heavy weight cutaway stabilizer
Thread (matching or contrasting)
|
 |
Hoop the WSS (I started out with two layers and then tried one layer -
one worked just fine). Pin your top fabric to the WSS making sure the pins are
outside the embroidery area.
If your fabric has a directional pattern ensure that it is correctly
positioned.
|
 |
Float the cutaway and the bottom fabric (right side down) under the
hoop. If you aren't comfortable with floating them, you can pin them
all together in a sandwich.
Refer to photo for correct order of layers.
|
 |
Stitch the first outline. Remove the hoop from the machine but DO NOT remove the project from the
hoop.
Trim all layers except the WSS
close to the stitch line.
|
 |
Return the hoop to the machine. You can skip the second outline if you wish. I left it there in case
someone wants to add a design that they don't want to show on the bottom
side.
Satin stitch
|
 |
Remove hoop from machine. Tear WSS away from satin stitch outline.
To remove the excess WSS, I just patted around the edges with a wet
sponge and/or dipped my fingers in a cup of water and patted the edges.
You can rinse them, but I was too impatient to wait for them to dry.

Top Sides
Repeat this process for the side panels.
You will need 8 side panels.
Reverse Sides
|
 |
Arrange the pieces the way you want them to look. This step is just to make sure you have all the pieces and the correct
number of each.
I chose to use the heart lines on every other panel and put a redwork
design on the others. I chose a design that would look good from the
backside also.

Using your regular sewing machine, satin stitch (zigzag) the ends of
the panels to the sides of the bottom (center piece). Be sure to put them in the order you chose in the previous step.
|
 |
Stitch the side panels to each other in the same manner.
I chose to stitch every other panel and then go back and stitch the
ones I skipped. It seemed easier to handle that way.
